The Structure of Matter

An interesting experiment with varying degrees of angular placement of a powerful green laser (~ 200-milliwatt), a glossy surface (in this case, a black plastic speaker playing music). The song is called "We Meet At Last" by "Liquid Stranger". Technically, the reflected laser light forms what is referred to as "diffraction patterns", however the phenomena is a bit more complex than this. Clearly, you can see the molecular structure of the polypropylene begin to vivify due to the intense heat of the 200mw beam. When this is coupled with music, the vibrations caused by the music seem to influence this process. The result is nothing short of incredible to watch. It's as if you are witnessing the emergence of universe, its evolutionary expansion and eventual contraction. Once you become accustomed to "fine tuning" the angle and power of the laser, you will be able to visually navigate a three-dimensional projection of the process, on many different scales. Dr. William B. Allen - concluding remarks at the Indian Child Welfare Act "Teach-In" Oct. 28, 2011

Indian Children: Citizens, not Cultural Artifacts - Are Some Children's Lives Destroyed by ICWA? Indian Child Welfare Act "Teach-In" Friday, October 28, 2011, Senate Committee on Indian Affairs Hearing Room, Wash, DC Keynote speaker: Dr. William B. Allen - Emeritus Professor, Political Science, MSU and former Chair of the US Commission on Civil Rights (1989) Across America, children who had never been near a reservation nor involved in tribal customs - including multi-racial children with extremely minimal blood quantum - have been removed from homes they know and love and placed with strangers chosen by tribal social services. The Indian Child Welfare Act was passed in 1978 in effort to help prevent Native-American tribes and families from losing children to non-Native homes through foster care and adoption. Though well-intentioned, the Act is now harming children all across the country as courts and tribes place culture and tribal sovereignty above children's basic needs for permanency and stability. Listen as the constitutionality of an Act that limits placement options and delays permanency for many of our nation's most vulnerable children is discussed. 1) Some Children have been removed from safe, loving homes and placed into dangerous situations. 2) Some families, Indian and non-Indian, have felt threatened by tribal government. Some have had to mortgage homes and endure lengthy legal processes to protect their children. 3) Equal opportunities for adoption, safety ...

The First Noel Pt. 2 - Christmas Eve 2004 - St. John The Divine, NYC

Here is a recording from the 2004 10.30PM Midnight Mass Service at The Cathedral of St. John The Divine, NYC. Timothy J. Brumfield, Organist and Johnson Flucker, Director of Cathedral Music conducting the Cathedral Combined Choirs, with brass, timpani and strings. The last verse is Tim Brumfield's own arrangement! (Thanks Tim!). This is the conclusion from the first clip, including the final verse and Tim's mini organ improvisation at the end of the final verse. This recording features the 'temporary' 3-manual/pedal Allen digital organ installed just a few days before the 2001 Christmas Eve service, right after the devastating December 18th, 2001 fire in the North Transept. The sound of the Allen on this recording was the best it ever sounded in the Cathedral, after much experimentation with speaker placement and tuning from the console by Organ Curator Doug Hunt and Allen's technicians. You will see a picture of the recording setup on the original 1910 Op. 150/150A Skinner console, still covered in dust from the devastating fire on Dec. 18th, 2001 - with a hand-written note by Organ Curator Doug Hunt telling people 'Do Not Touch' the console! Former Cathedral Organist Dorothy Papadakos's old Sony DAT recorder is below the HHB CD burner I used to capture these services for a few years after the 2001 fire. A single Sony stereo mic was suspended from the Choir ceiling, and connected to a no-name mic preamp/mixer. This setup was in place for a few weeks before the 2001 fire ...
